Ribbon Cutting of Lake Village at the Glades: Non-Congregate Sheltering facility for the Western Communities

Preferred option to residents in need of care and isolation due to coronavirus

Posted

PAHOKEE — Palm Beach County Facilities Development & Operations Department will hold a ribbon cutting for the Lake Village at the Glade on Thursday, Feb. 4, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The location of the Lake Village at the Glades is 1749 E. Main Street in Pahokee.

Non-congregate sheltering (NCS) refers to locations where each individual or household has living space that offers some level of privacy, which is interpreted as its own room and sanitary facilities. Given that the coronavirus most easily spreads from person-to-person, non-congregate sheltering has been the preferred option to care for those in need of isolation.

In consideration of the limited options to address the sheltering needs of the area, on June 2, 2020, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners approved the NCS Strategy for the Western Communities. The Strategy provided for the renovation of two county-owned facilities to accommodate special conditions, circumstances and needs of the communities west of 20 Mile Bend for non-congregate sheltering.

The Lake Village at the Glades facility is a 42-unit apartment complex that will operate in tandem with the Belle Glade Assessment Center to provide those in need an adequate sheltering alternative. The renovation of the Lake Village at the Glades facility was partially funded with CARES Act monies.
