BELLE GLADE  -- After a hit and run driver left Roberto Alpiza for dead on the side of I-95 in Martin County, he needs your help.

On Nov. 21,  Alpiza was struck by a vehicle on I-95 as he pulled over off the interstate. The details of the accident are still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Though the driver of the other vehicle fled the scene and did not call for help, Alpiza managed to call 911 himself.

Since the accident, Alpiza has been in critical condition at Lawnwood Medical Center as he is  treated for the life-threatening injuries sustained. Alpiza lost his right leg and though doctors tried to save his left, they were unsuccessful, and it too was amputated on Dec. 3.

He is expected to be in the hospital for several weeks, and for now, it is a wait-and-see recovery journey.

Alpiza has always been  caretaker and provider for his three children, X. Alpiza 13, who attends Glades Day School,  A. Alpiza 9, and R. Alpiza Jr. 6, who attend Gove Elementary. The family resides in Belle Glade, Florida.

A friend of the family, Marili Torres, set up a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses and with  modifications to the family home to accomodate for Alpiza's injuries.  The GoFundMe page can be found here:  Alpiza GoFundMe

There have been no updates from the authorities in regards to the driver who fled the scene.
