Daryl Roehm has been hired as the coordinator of Career and Technical Education (CTE) for the Okeechobee County School Board for the upcoming school year.

This is a new position for the 2022-2023 school year that was established to provide direct leadership for the development and operation of comprehensive programs in CTE for the students of Okeechobee County.

Roehm had this to say about  his new position: "The 2022 – 2023 school year will be my 24th year with the Okeechobee County School Board. During that time, I have served as a Business Teacher, teaching primarily Accounting, Athletic Director, Dean of Students, and Guidance Counselor. Each of these roles has made an impact on my current role as Career and Technical Education Coordinator.

" My heart and soul has always been in this area. Early on in my teaching career I realized the impact that Career and Technical Education can have on students. I am very proud of all of my former students and the accomplishments that they have achieved. Being in a CTE program gives the student an opportunity to take ownership of their education and graduate high school with certifications that make them a valuable potential employee.

"Each role helped me work with students, teachers, and parents to have discussions about their future and the careers they might wish to explore. Okeechobee County Schools offers a wide variety of technical education programs.

"Currently the programs are Nursing, Automotive, Construction, Digital Design, Animal Science Agricultural Mechanics, and Aquaculture. There has been a tremendous amount of success in these programs  which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the instructors and the students.

"Goals that we would like to achieve include increasing the number of quality certifications that students can earn. To do this, we will support the growth of instructors in these programs and provide them the tools to achieve  these goals. In addition, we will continually push students enrolled in these programs to meet graduation  requirements, including demonstrating proficiency in reading and math on standardized exams.

"We will also work to expand the number of programs offered, affording greater opportunities for students in Okeechobee County, including those in elementary and middle schools, to explore career pathways and be ready for careers in their future. To this end, we will work with post-secondary institutions to create opportunities for students to continue their education in their selected fields. All this will be done while prioritizing communication with parents so that we can help make them aware of the value of each of these programs.

"Finally, we will be working very closely with businesses in Okeechobee and surrounding areas through advisory boards, job fairs, guest speaking visits, and other networking opportunities. This is vital, as these businesses will be the future employers of our students.

"I look forward to the challenges of this new position and the possibilities that the position presents."
