OKEECHOBEE – A 22-year-old local man was seriously injured last weekend when his motorcycle ran into a roll of chain link fence in the middle of the highway.
Larry Fresolone, who lives in Treasure Island, was on his way home, riding his motorcycle on U.S. 441 Southeast, just north of Nubbins Slough when he came upon the roll of fencing.
In the dark, Fresolone was unable to avoid the obstacle and ran right into it, wrecking his motorcycle and seriously injuring himself.
Thankfully, Fresolone has an app on his phone called Life360. It immediately notified emergency services and family members.
He was hospitalized with a broken collarbone, fractures, lacerations, abrasions, and swelling.
The bike was a total loss, sliding away from Fresolone before being engulfed in flames.
Caitlin Wolf drove by the roll of fencing and just as she turned around to move it, she said that was when Larry hit it. "I watched it and sat with him and a few others until help was there."
Friends set up a GoFundMe account to help the family with medical bills and loss of income. Help Larry Fresolone
Fresolone is a graduate of Okeechobee High School and is the sole provider for his family. He will be out of work for roughly six months according to his doctors. His medical bills will be hefty due to seeing a specialist and his hospital stay.
Fresolone’s father hopes this experience will show others how important it is to tie down/secure loads on your truck. Just because you aren’t going far, does not mean you can just throw things in the back of your truck and hope for the best.
“ I just hope the responsible person knows they lost a roll of chain link fence and sees that it almost cost my son's life due to their negligence,” he said.
