School Board offers COVID-19 vaccination to eligible school employees

Posted

The following letter was sent to all School District of Palm Beach County employees. Employees of public, charter, and private schools are eligible.

Dear Team Palm Beach:

The School Board and I are pleased to announce that the District has collaborated with the State, once again, to offer eligible school employees an opportunity to receive the single-dose Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccination.

Four dedicated walk-up vaccination sites will be open this Thursday and Friday for all school employees who meet the following criteria as set by the State:

• School employees who are 40 years of age or older.
• School employees of all ages who are medically vulnerable and are in possession of a COVID-19 Determination of Extreme Vulnerability Form filled out and signed by a physician.

The District will work with the State to administer the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine on Thursday, April 1, and Friday, April 2, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the following school-based sites:

• Jeaga Middle School – 3777 N. Jog Rd., West Palm Beach
• John I. Leonard High School – 4701 10th Ave. N., Greenacres
• Atlantic Community High School – 2455 W. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach

• Lake Shore Middle School - 425 W. Canal St., N., Belle Glade

Please do not arrive at a vaccination site earlier than 1:30 p.m.

There is no pre-registration, and the vaccines will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wait times may be lengthy; your patience is appreciated.

Additionally, on Saturday, April 3, two campuses will serve as vaccination sites for school employees meeting the same criteria noted above. The following schools will serve as vaccination sites from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 3.

• Jeaga Middle School – 3777 N. Jog Rd., West Palm Beach
• Atlantic Community High School – 2455 W. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach

Eligible school employees going to any of the aforementioned vaccination sites must bring:

• A government-issued ID verifying that they are 40 years of age or older, or their signed medical form.
• AND either a school ID badge, a pay stub, or other proof of school employment.

Any school employee who does not have the required ID or signed medical form and proof of employment will not be permitted to enter the vaccination sites.

Facial coverings are required at each site and employees must follow all social distancing guidelines. Only employees receiving the vaccine are permitted to enter the site. Additional visitors should remain in their vehicles.

While the school-based vaccination sites mentioned above are only open to school employees who meet the State’s eligibility requirements, it’s important to note that school employees of all ages are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at a pharmacy involved in the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.

All of this information and links to vaccination sites are listed on the District’s dedicated informational webpage: palmbeachschools.org/CovidVaccine (https://palmbeachschools.org/students_parents/health_services/coronavirus_disease_2019__covid_19/covid_19_vaccination_locations).

Receiving the COVID-19 vaccination is a personal choice for our employees. While there is no requirement for you to receive the immunization, I want you to be aware of your options regarding the availability of the vaccine, particularly as District work operations continue to shift from remote to an in-person workday.

Employees who are permanently assigned to non-school site locations, such as the Fulton-Holland Educational Services Center can anticipate a recall to their District-based building as early as May.

Your division head will share more information with you regarding a return to in-person work in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, the District will continue to send updates in our ongoing role of advocating for members of Team Palm Beach who wish to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Respectfully,

Donald E. Fennoy II, Ed.D.
