Posted

BELLE GLADE — Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority recognizes that early detection is a critical first step in fighting this dreadful disease. The sorority is committed to make an impact by combating the devastating effects breast cancer has on its members, loved ones and families through education and mammogram screenings.

The sorority seeks to help 100,000 women to share information concerning breast cancer and increase awareness regarding the risk factors that contribute to breast cancer. Alpha Kappa Alpha is so dedicated to this cause that it has purchased its own a digital AKA Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Unit that travels to various locations and provides mammogram screening.

In an effort to bring breast cancer awareness to the people of the Glades area and Clewiston the Mu Rho Omega Chapter’s Target 2: Women’s Healthcare and Wellness Committee, hosted a Virtual Breast Cancer Awareness event on Oct. 2, 2020. The event focused on early detection. Studies show that when breast cancer is detected early, before it spreads to other parts of the body, the survival rate is as high as 98%.

The Chapter wishes to thank the Women’s Healthcare and Wellness Committee Chairman Ciera Thomas, Co-Chairman Sequoia Crawford and all those who attended the virtual event.
