Speed limit change on County Road 721 to be temporary

Posted

MOORE HAVEN  -- At their Feb. 9 meeting, Glades County Commissioners discussed an amendment to the county’s comprehensive land use plan. This was necessary because the future land use element of the plan had some inconsitencies with the land development regulations (LDRs).

In other business, commissioners agreed the speed limit change for County Road 721 to 40 mph will be temporary and will be in effect until the road construction is complete. The engineer will determine when the road work is complete and it is safe to resume higher speeds.

U.S. Sugar has agreed to reroute their trucks across the Lykes Bros. property they are leasing, to accomodate Glades County’s request to keep the heavy, loaded trucks off the damaged portion of County Road 721. The engineer has asked the state for permission to change the scope of work in order to use the available state funding to stablize the road. The state funding had been allocated for repaving.
