Collier County Public Schools

Through a cooperative effort between the Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida and the Department of Health-Collier (DOH-Collier), Practical Nursing and Medical Coder/Biller students from Immokalee Technical College (iTECH) were able to assist at a recent vaccination clinic held for Immokalee residents on January 12, where 500 COVID-19 vaccinations were administered to those age 65 and older.

“These two organizations [Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida and the DOH-Collier] are on our advisory board and are active clinical partners of our Health Sciences/Nursing programs,” shared Cindy Hantzis, iTECH’s coordinator of Health Sciences/Nursing. “Through this partnership and opportunity, our students were able to assist with patient registration, patient histories, health forms, and translation.”

Following the event, students discussed the importance of health literacy in the Immokalee community. Hantzis added, “Giving back to our community is so important, and I am happy our students were able to help facilitate a smooth flow of patients.”
