OKEECHOBEE -- Early Monday morning, Oct. 18, students on a bus bound for Everglades Elementary found a small container of an unknown substance on the floor of their bus.
A student opened the small container, and several other students smelled the contents, making some feel ill. The students affected were picked up by their parents after being medically cleared.
The substance was tested and showed a high concentration of ammonia.
Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office asks parents to speak with their children about touching and especially smelling any unknown compounds and report found items to nearby adults.
