The blessing of our senses

How blessed we are to have our five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch! We probably don’t even think about them because they automatically come into play, and we experience them without thinking about them. Without sight, we wouldn’t know the beauty of a sunrise or a sunset, seeing the beauty in creation, watching our children and grandchildren grow up. In our old age the gift of hearing becomes even more precious since sometimes it gets damaged with time and hearing is lost. Jesus himself knew how special both these gifts are and he often restored them to those who had lost them. He knew they were part of what makes us whole. And what if we were unable to smell a beautiful rose, a meatloaf fresh from the oven, and what about a baby, fresh from a bath and powdered? There would be a void in our lives without these gifts. Those who contracted COVID lost their sense of taste and, for a time, all of us were unable to touch each other. We grew to understand quickly how important these gifts were to our love of life and each other.

Bottom line: We have an amazing God who has given us all our senses to make us whole, to experience and enjoy as we navigate through life. They make us happy, they spill over to others, and together they help us experience the presence of God in our lives. Thank Him often! We are blessed!
