Thomas hits five RBIs in OHS win over Moore Haven

MOORE HAVEN- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman varsity softball team completed big back-to-back wins over Port St. Lucie and Moore Haven this week.

On March 24 the Lady Brahmans traveled south of the lake to take on the Moore Haven Lady Terriers. Okeechobee started the game fast and never looked back, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Elle Thomas and Jaclyn Pearce each had an RBI.

By the top of the second that lead would be 7-0. Thomas brought in two more RBIs on a long fly ball to deep center field. She’d go on to have a team leading five RBIs total against the Lady Terriers. Marysa Farmer and  Robbie Talley also had RBIs in the second inning while Abby Whitlock scored on a passed ball.

Okeechobee won the game 18-8.

Both of the Lady Brahman games following spring break have been lopsided, Okeechobee wins.

On March 23 the Lady Brahmans hosted the Port St. Lucie Lady Jaguars, beating them 19-3. In that game, much like the game against Moore Haven, Okeechobee jumped out to a big lead early. Except instead of it being 7-0 in the second inning, the score was 16-0 in the bottom of the first.

Following a three up-three down top of the first by Okeechobee pitcher Laci Prescott, the Port St. Lucie defense fell apart fast in the bottom of the inning. Passed balls, walks, and batters hit by pitch, you name it the PSL defense dealt with it in that inning. Okeechobee had 10 hits in the inning and scored 14 runs before their first out.

The pair of wins makes OHS softball 5-3 so far this year. Next they close out this week by traveling to play Treasure Coast High School at 4 p.m. on March 26.
