Trash dumped at Okee-Tantie Recreation Area

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- Since the Okee-Tantie Recreation Area campground closed, it's not as busy as it once was, but many community residents use the boat ramps there, launch airboats and fish from the banks.

Some enjoy walking their dogs in the park.

Recently one resident was dismayed to see someone had dumped trash, tires and even old furniture on the county property.

The Okeechobee County Facilities Maintenance Department is responsible for taking care of this area, according to  Community Services Director Denise Whitehead. "If people see issues at all like garbage being dumped, overnight camping, vandalism, etc. they can contact my office at 863-763-6950. We appreciate the communities help to make sure our park facilities are kept clean. "
