Truck through traffic banned on Southwest Ninth Street

Posted

OKEECHOBEE – Okeechobee County Commissioners voted Oct. 28 to ban through truck traffic on Southwest Ninth Street between Southwest 87th Terrace and Southwest 67th Drive.

At their regular commission meeting, Commission Chair Terry Burroughs said there have been complaints from homeowners about trucks speeding through that area. There are a lot of children in that area, people walking and people riding bicycles. The trucks speeding down that road are endangering the public, he said. The trucks are also tearing up that residential road, he added.

Commissioner David Hazellief said the trucks can use State Road 70 instead of cutting through Ninth Street.
