Two sentenced for possession of cocaine

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — A man and woman were sentenced last month after pleading no contest to possession of cocaine. Dadricka Riles was sentenced to five years drug offender probation, and Javaris Frost was sentenced to five years in state prison.

The two were arrested May 16, 2020 after a traffic accident. Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Hernandez was dispatched to the 1600 block of Northwest 160th Street after an anonymous call about a traffic crash in which an SUV went through a fence.

When Hernandez arrived, he spoke to Riles, who told him a semi truck ran them off the road. She also said someone else was driving but got out of the vehicle after the crash and left in a white car. She said she could not remember his name.

When asked why she did not call the sheriff’s office after the accident, she had no answer. While she was searching for her identification, Riles dropped a clear plastic baggie containing cocaine. When she realized she dropped it, she stepped on it in an attempt to conceal it.

When Frost was searched, Deputy Noah Wenrick found a baggie containing cocaine in his pocket. Frost told deputies Riles was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred.

Frost was sentenced to state prison for six years in 2018 after pleading no contest to the sale manufacture or delivery of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a park and possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a park. At that time, Frost was a youthful offender and his sentence was withheld. Instead he was placed on probation for five years after serving one year in county jail.

Riles has a long history with the courts beginning with a charge of aggravated battery in 2008. In 2016, she was charged with sale of cocaine and possession with intent to sell, but the charges were dropped. Later that year, she was charged with the same things and entered a plea of no contest. She was sentenced to one year and five months. After her release, she was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana and once again entered a no contest plea. She was sentenced to one year in state prison.
