Veterans' rights activist meets heroes

Posted

OKEECHOBEE --  Veterans' rights activist Gregg Maynard has many heroes, but none of them wear a cape. They all have one thing in common: They are veterans.

Last week, Maynard had the pleasure of meeting two of those heroes at the 2021 Shadow Warriors Event in  Orlando on July 30 and 31. He met  Don Jenkins, a Medal of Honor recipient and Jessica Lynch who was held as a POW in Iraq.

The Shadow Warriors Club was established by law enforcement, veterans, public servants and contractors.

The Shadow Warriors project was created by Mark Geist, a private security contractor, who was injured while protecting the people inside the CIA security Annex from a terror attack on Sept. 12, 2012. His injuries prevented him from being able to return to work, which made it difficult to provide for his family.

The  Shadow Warriors Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation, is dedicated to the support of private military security contractors, conducting paramilitary security operations in some of the world's most dangerous areas.  These contractors do not receive the medical and financial benefits available to regular military and often find themselves without support to cover the costs of medical injuries that occur on the battlefield, and the resulting loss of income.
