MOORE HAVEN -- Two Glades County commission districts and three school board districts have election races this year, with the primary election slated for Tuesday, Aug. 23.

County District 2 county commissioner incumbent Donna Storter Long is being challenged by Jeff Barnes for her seat. Both are Republicans. Jacob Heflin of the Libertarian Party of Florida did not qualify.

In District 4, Independent candidate Phillip S. Kelly withdrew from the race, leaving Republicans Doug Korinke, Hattie L. Taylor, and Democrat RaShondra “Shon” Croskey, in competition for the seat John Ahern currently holds.

Incumbent Crystal Drake is running unopposed for the county’s school board’s District 1, while Kimberly Clement and Lisa Beaner vie for the District 4 seat. Incumbent Gloria Reese is not on the ballot. District 5 incumbent Patricia Pearce is running unopposed for her seat. School board races are non-partisan elections.

There are four Glades County Soil & Water Conservation District seats open with candidates running unopposed. Amy Perry Ridgdill is running for Seat 1, Sarah Gracelyn Byrd for Seat 2, Robert Oxer for Seat 3 and Robert Hammock, Jr. for Seat 4. Seat 5 is listed without a candidate on the Glades County Supervisor of Elections website.

The primary election is held Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. You can find your precinct on the Supervisor of Elections website here: https://www.voteglades.com/Voting-Info/Precinct-Finder.

The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Voting registration ends for the primary election on July 25; for the general election on Oct. 11. New registration applicants and party change requests must be received or postmarked on or before that date by a voter registration agency.

The State of Florida has a website to register to vote online here: https://registertovoteflorida.gov/home. You will need to provide your Florida driver’s license or Florida identification card issued by the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles, the issue date of your Florida driver’s license or identification card and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

You can check your voter status online here: https://www.voteglades.com/Registration-Info/View-Voter-Status .

If you don’t have your voter information card after registering to vote, call the Supervisor of Elections office at 863-946-6005 to find what precinct you live in and your designated polling place.
