OKEECHOBEE — When she realized her neighbor needed help with her yard work, Sapphira Rey took the problem to Facebook, more specifically, to "The Scoup" page. Rey said she and her husband did what they could to help "Ms. Terry," but between full-time jobs and taking care of their child, they could only do so much.

Ms. Terry lives in Treasure Island and as an older woman in poor health, she finds it difficult to keep up with yard work.

“Is there anyone out there who would be willing to help out my elderly neighbor, to cut her grass and some bushes around her place for free?” asked Rey. Within hours, Rey had about 30 volunteers. Some offered to do the job themselves. Some offered to pay to have the job done, and others offered different things, like help with food or other necessities.

Two days after Rey asked for help, a local man was at Ms. Terry’s home taking care of her yard. Sandy Billie Jr., who owns Eco Lawn Service took care of everything with no cost to Ms. Terry at all.

Billie said he did it because we should all help and respect our elders.
