FORT PIERCE — Indian River State College and its workforce and economic development partners have identified a growing skills gap and an accelerating need for viable workers in industrial skills areas across Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties.
This skills gap between employer needs and the workforce pipeline is a central factor within the recent Treasure Coast Skills Gap studies, demonstrating significant needs across manufacturing, construction, marine, aviation, and logistics/distribution industries.
Employers in these industries are seeking a more robust pipeline to fill employment opportunities, and opportunities exist to provide training to individuals seeking such employment.
As such, a partnership was formed to address this identified gap through the execution of a detailed marketing campaign.

There is a large gap between the perception and the reality of today’s high demand jobs. Less than 3 in 10 Americans surveyed would encourage their children to pursue a manufacturing career, according to a study by Deloitte for the Manufacturing Institute. The goal is to improve the perception of manufacturing and skilled trade careers, closing the gap between perception and reality, and expanding the talent pipeline of highly qualified candidates for our region.
The campaign targets young people graduating high school and entering the workforce as well as the people who influence their career decisions such as parents, teachers and guidance counselors.
The partnership wants people to know that careers in manufacturing and the skilled trades offer great pay and benefits for doing fun, rewarding work.
Tapping into the popularity of maker culture, our video campaign introduces you to the Makers of the Treasure Coast. The Makers of the Treasure Coast meet the people “making it” on the Treasure Coast. They are making airplanes, boats, homes and more. They are making things work and making them move.
The website created for the campaign, https://tcmakers.com/ positions making stuff as fun, and showcases some of the interesting jobs in our area, as well as training opportunities to get the skills needed.
Marketing tactics currently active in phase one include Connected TV, Broadcast TV, Digital Video, and Social Media.
