Zoning change requested for land north and south of Charles Harvey Highway

OKEECHOBEE  — A 609 housing unit development is proposed north and south of Charles Harvey Highway.

A public hearing will be held before the Okeechobee County Planning Board on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 6 p.m. in the Health Department Auditorium, 1728 N.W. Ninth Ave., Okeechobee, to consider a request for a change in zoning from the existing classification of Planned Development - Freshwater (PD) to the proposed classification of Planned Development - Midtown Village (PD).

The preliminary plan proposes a mixed use development including approximately 609 dwelling units and 26.68 acres of commercial uses.

The property owner is Coker Cattle Corporation. The applicant is Einhorn Capital, LLC.

The property is located on the north and south side of S.E. 28th Street (Charles Harvey Memorial Highway) east of US Highway 441 South.

A second public hearing on the requested zoning change will be held before the Okeechobee County Board of County Commissioners  on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 9 a.m. in the Judge William L. Hendry Courtroom, Room 270, Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 NW Second Street, Okeechobee, Florida.
