The Tim Tebow Foundation launched Night to Shine, a prom for those age 14 and up who have special needs, 10 years ago. According to the website, the Tim Tebow Foundation’s mission is to bring faith, hope and love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need.
Night to Shine is a free event hosted by local churches. In Okeechobee’s case, it was hosted by the First Baptist Church.
During the event, guests have the opportunity to walk the red carpet, dance, eat dinner, sing karaoke and more. Most events offer a respite room for caregivers. A crowning ceremony is held, and all guests are crowned.
“Night to Shine is a celebration of God’s love for YOU, our kings and queens,” states the website.
This year, the event took place on Feb. 9, and plans are already in progress for next year.
Cynthis Hawk spearheaded the event, and Sheriff Noel Stephen prepared the food.
A special thanks goes to Pastor Mark McCarter for offering the use of his church for the event.
Thank you to all volunteers who made the event a huge success.
