Florida Supreme Court rules on abortion case

Posted
On Monday, April 1, the Florida Supreme Court presented two rulings on abortion upholding a ban , while leaving the decision up to Florida voters this fall as to whether to enshrine abortion protections in the state’s constitution.

The court ruled 6-1 that a 15-week limit on abortions is constitutional while also upholding a law signed by the state legislature to protect the unborn at six weeks — which includes exceptions for rape, incest, fatal fetal anomalies and medical emergencies. Previously, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a 15-week abortion ban, but pro-abortion organizations such as Planned Parenthood challenged the law arguing that Florida’s unique privacy clause should remain in effect.
