Glades community gathers for Pre-Harvest Prayers

Posted

SOUTH BAY – Glades Lives Matter and area ministers are counting on the power of prayer to bless the upcoming harvest. A Pre-Harvest Prayer Gathering was held on Friday, Sept. 29, at Tanner Park, 105 West Palm Beach Road in South Bay.

“Glades’ farmers feed America and are a vital part of our local communities, and we as a community should pray for their safety and a bountiful harvest,” said Pastor Albert Polk with Miracle by Faith Revival Center in South Bay.

This year’s harvest starts Oct. 1 and is one of the most important times of the year for the community as a flurry of activity begins for the many area residents involved in agriculture or agricultural-related services. Mature crops are harvested and processed while planting activities for the next sugarcane and vegetable crops also start to get underway.

“Our farmers are some of the hardest workers and nicest people you will ever meet. They grow safe and nourishing food crops for your family and for my family and they help our local schools and community organizations in so many ways. I believe they deserve our support, our prayers, and our thanks,” said Pastor Benjamin Escorcia, Sr. of Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal Church in Clewiston.

At a time when farmers face unwarranted criticism from eco-activists, prayer warriors and friends were invited to join with area ministers, Glades’ city leaders, and their neighbors to pray with open minds and open hearts.

“For decades, outside interests have worked to divide the Glades farming communities. So, we want to take this time to come together and pray for strength, grace, and unity,” said Pastor Robert Reese with First St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Belle Glade.
