BELLE GLADE- The Glades Day Lady Gators varsity soccer team has a 12-5-1 record as the regular season ends, and are currently ranked first in their district.
The Lady Gators scored back-to-back wins over Moore Haven and Pahokee this month, beating both teams 8-0. Senior Hana Lohmann led Glades Day in scoring in both shutouts, netting five goals against Pahokee and six goals against Moore Haven.
Lohmann recently earned Big Lake Athlete of the Week honors for her performance with the team this year. Hana leads the Lady Gators in scoring for the season with 48 goals, followed by fellow senior Peyton Pelham with 21. Senior Nicole Ruiz has 127 saves for Glades Day this season.
Back in December, the Lady Gators went on a dominant run of back-to-back wins, including four shutouts. Glades Day defeated Berean Christian 3-1, Glades Central 6-0, Trinity Christian Academy 8-0, Atlantic Christian 8-0, Moore Haven 9-1, and Sports Leadership and Management 8-0.
Glades Day is building off the success from last year, which saw them win the district championship and advance all the way to the regional semifinal. The Lady Gators finished with a 13-5-2 record last season and didn’t allow a single point in the district tournament.
In last season’s district semifinal Glades Day shut out Moore Haven 8-0 with Lohmann scoring five of those goals. In the championship game, the girls defeated Lake Worth Christian 2-0 with Lohmann scoring both goals. Lohmann ended last season with a team leading 48 goals and 31 assists.
The Florida High School Athletic Association girls soccer playoffs are set to start in early February.
