BELLE GLADE — Palm Beach State College received a special proclamation recognizing its 90th anniversary from the city of South Bay during a city council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Accepting the honor on behalf of the college from the city of South Bay Mayor Joe Kyles Sr. was Executive Dean of the Belle Glade campus Dr. LaTanya McNeal. Joining her from PBSC was Belle Glade campus student activities Mmanager Dante Ferrell and Loxahatchee Groves campus student activities manager Cynedra Blake.

“It is an honor to accept this proclamation from the city of South Bay,” said McNeal during the meeting. “As we reflect over the last 90 years of training and educating students, we are proud of our history and to have actively partnered over the years with local schools, organizations and businesses in the tri-city area of the Glades.”

McNeal also spoke about how PBSC has grown and evolved over the last 90 years noting that today PBSC has five campus locations and has awarded 175,000 degrees and certificates.

“Many of these degree and certificate recipients are actively serving in various industries throughout Palm Beach County,” McNeal said.

As a thank you to the city, PBSC gift bags were given to the mayor, council members and others.

The city of South Bay proclamation marks 16 municipal proclamations to date presented to PBSC by municipalities in Palm Beach County. The next proclamation to be presented recognizing PBSC’s historic anniversary will be from the village of Wellington on Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Throughout the year, PBSC will celebrate its 90th anniversary milestone with activities such as campus celebrations, open houses, innovation initiatives and capital projects. Stories will spotlight the achievements of alumni, students, faculty, staff and community partners on the college’s website. Social media posts and special events will use the hashtag #PBSC90th.
