CLEWISTON — On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Clewiston Green Thumb Garden Club (GTGC) members met at the First United Methodist Church in the Trinity Room at 10 a.m. There was an Installation of Officers ceremony for the 2020-2021 year that was officiated by LuAnne Williams, member of the GTGC and former president of the GTGC in 2016-2018.
LuAnne called each officer to the front, gave a description of their duties, then each officer lit a candle. The officers for the year 2020-2021 are: President Margo Fatzinger, Vice President Mary Ann Jones, Second Vice President Carol Griggs, Recording Secretary Tena Harris, Corresponding Secretary Janet Way, Treasurer Ninette Aker, Historian Judith French and Chaplain Karen Cochrane.
The new president, Margo Fatzinger, discussed plans for the upcoming year as they went through their new booklets for 2020-2021. Their last meeting was in February, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In May the GTGC awarded three scholarships, which were presented by staff members at the following high schools:
• Madisyn Thomley at the Clewiston Christian School was awarded $500 for the Agricultural Scholarship.
• Mark Faulk was awarded $500 for the Clewiston High School (CHS) Agricultural Scholarship.
The Clewiston GTGC members practiced social distancing and wore masks at their meeting. The next meeting will be held Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in the LEC building.
