Posted

LABELLE – The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reminds residents to lock their vehicles.

From Sept. 1-26,  15 vehicle burglaries were reported.

The suspects are opportunistic, stealing anything of value, according to HCSO.

In 73% of the cases – 11 burglaries -- the vehicles were left unlocked. In six of those 11 burglaries of unlocked vehicles, firearms were stolen.

Most of these burglaries occurred between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m.

In the past year, 45% of vehicle burglaries in Hendry County involved unlocked vehicles and 20% of vehicle burglaries involved firearms being stolen.

HCSO advises:

  • Always lock your vehicle doors.
  • Park your car in a well-lit area.
  • Do not leave valuables in your car.
