Herschel, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in Okeechobee, Florida, at the age of 92. Born on July 23, 1931, in Orono, Maine, to Lena Williams Haverlock and Joseph Haverlock.
Herschel was predeceased by his three brothers, Robert, Virgil & Joseph and two sisters, Luanne and Althea. He is survived by his sister, Jane Hutchins.
He had a profound sense of determination which would characterize his entire life.
A guiding light to his children, Herschel is survived by his daughters, Sherrie (Leroy) Everett of Lake Placid and Dawna Basl of Palmetto; his sons, Herschel R. Haverlock, Jr. of Ocala, and Louis (Rosslyn) Haverlock of Brandon. His legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Haverlock, with whom he shared a life of work and productivity. They enjoyed taking care of plants they collected during their travels throughout Florida.
He was a member of Northside Baptist where he enjoyed listening to Faye play the piano and the friends he developed there as well as the friends he enjoyed at Taylor Creek Condominium. Professionally, Herschel was known as a skilled heavy equipment operator and machinist, a vocation through which he made countless contributions wherever he worked. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate Bird Ranch, specializing in parrots, where his love for birds was evident to all who visited. Herschel’s passion for life was not limited to his work; he was an avid coin collector, a hobby that allowed him to connect with fellow enthusiasts and share stories of the past.
Herschel’s life was a testament to the values of hard work and integrity. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his hearty laugh, and the twinkle in his bright, blue eyes. His presence was a source of comfort and strength, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to caregiver Sandy Schoonmaker for her devoted care to Herschel.
