Linneaus, 95, died at his residence in Okeechobee, Florida, on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
He was born on December 15, 1928, in LeRoy, New York to Fred O. Farrell and Imogene S. Farrell-Hayman.
After he finished school, he joined the United States Navy. In 1949, he and the love of his life, Evelyn H. Elliott, were married. They had no children.
He was a World War II Navy Veteran having served on the U.S. Philippine Sea. While serving on the ship, all 4,000 men were made charter members of the Order of the Penquin, an order created by Rear Admiral Byrd for those who crossed the Antarctic Circle while participating in “Operation High Jump”. He was very proud of his service to his country.
He worked for Kodak and after 20 years retired from there. Then he became a postal carrier and a member of the Retired Postal Service.
In his spare time, he was a volunteer fireman and was given a lifetime award in the Western New York Fireman Association. He and Evelyn enjoyed living in Okeechobee around his family for the winter, watching the Mets Spring training games in Port St Lucie, and cruising to the Bahamas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; grandmother, Inez Sinclair; father and mother, Fred Farrell and Imogene Farrell-Hayman; stepfather, Bill Hayman; sister, Beverly Dampier; brother-in-law, Jim Elliott; mother-in-law, Evelyn Elliott; and father-in-law, Harry B. Elliott, Sr.
He is survived by brothers-in-law, Harry B. Elliott, Jr. “Sonny” and Tommy McGee; sisters-in-law, Kathy Elliott McGee and Diane Belk Elliott; cousins, Noelle Decker Landin, Pat Butterfield, and Charles Carpenter; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lindy was a personable man who never missed a chance to talk to people. Each morning, he took a walk around Okeechobee, and then went to eat at Gladys Restaurant where he had lively chats with many of the elected officials of the town.
A time of memorial will be held at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Mark McCarter officiating. Interment will be at Basinger Cemetery at a later date.
