Middle school student accused of making bomb treat

CLEWISTON -- After threats were made against Clewiston Middle School, on Wednesday, January 24 , 2024 on Snapchat, Hendry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Division made an arrest.

Detectives arrested 14-year-old Yusbiel Cabrera, a student at Clewiston Middle School, after an investigation.  The bomb threat targeted Clewiston Middle School.  Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, Clewiston Police Department and the Hendry County School District received calls reporting this threat.  

Cabrera posted the threat to Snapchat. 

According to interviews, Cabrera said it was meant to be a “joke”, and he later deleted the post from Snapchat.

“Media posts such as this are “no joke”, said Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden.  “ We take every security related incident seriously and we will work hard to ensure the continued safety of the students and staff of our schools in Hendry County.

Cabrera was taken into custody and charged with Intimidation – Send Written Theat/Conduct Act of Terrorism and Public Order Crime – Use of 2-Way Device to Facilitate a Felony.  Cabrera was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
