Quinton, age 89, of Avon Park and formerly of Okeechobee, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Quinton was born on May 8, 1934, in Avon Park, Florida to his parents Nelson S. and Dollie M. Varnes (Williams).
Besides being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was also known for his honest, straightforwardness and hard-working ethics. He was always willing to help others in times of need.
He loved being outdoors, fishing, gardening, and piddling around the house. These activities brought him hours of comfort and enjoyment. He served with the Okeechobee police auxiliary and took great pride in supporting his community. He managed to keep his family and friends entertained with his clever wit and the unexpected timing of his wit and comical sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Dollie and two brothers.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Varnes; his daughter, Susan Bartoe (Randy); his son, Norman Varnes; grandson, Justin Merriman (Cara) and great-grandson, Tristan.
Quinton touched the lives of many, and he is going to be dearly missed. At the end of it all, he achieved his lifetime goal of being “The Longest Living Varnes.”
Arrangements entrusted to: Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, 111 East Circle Street, Avon Park, FL 33825. Online condolences may be left at: www.stephensonnelsonfh.com
