Car collides head-on with fire truck on SR 78

GLADES COUNTY -- A sedan, a semi and a fire truck were involved in a crash on State Road 78 in Glades County on Dec. 29. The driver and passengers in the sedan were seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. The crash remains under investigation.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, the accident occurred at 9:50 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, on State Road 78 near Duda Road.

A sedan driven by a 24-year-old Clewiston woman and a semi driven by a 30-year-old Naples man were eastbound on SR 78 according to the report.

A fire truck driven by a 25-year-old Okeechobee man was traveling west on SR 78.

The sedan entered the westbound lane of travel and collided with the front of the fire truck, the report states.

Post collision, debris from the initial crash collided with the semi.

The driver of the sedan and two passengers – a 35-year-old Moore Haven man and 5-year-old Moore Haven girl – were transported to Hendry Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

The semi driver, the fire truck driver and a passenger in the fire truck – a 46-year-old Okeechobee man – were not injured, according to the report.
