Boca Raton woman killed in head-on crash in Glades County

GLADES COUNTY ­– A 36-year-old woman was killed in a head-on crash on County Road 74 in Glades County at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a 41-year-old Miami man was traveling west on County Road 74, approximately 1 mile east of Fire Tower Road, the FHP report states. There were no passengers in the SUV.

 A sedan, driven by a was traveling east on County Road 74, driven by a 28-year-old Boca Raton man. A 36-year-old Bocan Raton woman and a 5-year-old boy, also from Boca Raton, were passengers in the vehicle.

According to the FHP report, the SUV entered the eastbound travel lane traveling west. Both the SUV and the sedan swerved toward the north grass shoulder in an attempt to avoid a collision. The front of the SUV collided with the front of the sedan on the north grass shoulder. Post collision, the SUV caught on fire. Post collision, the sedan overturned and came to rest on the north shoulder. The female passenger in the sedan was pronounced deceased on scene. The sedan driver and child passenger to transported to an area hospital.

The SUV driver received minor injuries in the crash, according to the FHP report.

 The crash remains under investigation.
