Glades County may ban commercial trucks on some roads

Posted

MOORE HAVEN – Glades County may ban commercial truck traffic on some county roads.

At their Oct. 10 Glades County Commission meeting, County Attorney Richard Pringle referenced an application submitted for mining on a property off Loblolly Road.

Pringle said he told the landowner, “You’re not going to drive across Loblolly Road with mining trucks. I don’t believe the county commission would ever approve a special exception nor would the planning and zoning board.”

Applications for special exceptions go to the planning and zoning board first. If the special exception is not approved, the applicant can appeal to the county commission.

He said they are also in the process of getting the evidence together to support a no commercial truck traffic ordinance to apply to Loblolly, Fernwood, Mitchell, Crescent, and some other roads to make them  no commercial truck traffic. He said each would have a separate study and ordinance.

The ban on commercial truck traffic would not apply to agricultural vehicles.
