AVON PARK — The Moore Haven Lady Terriers varsity softball team traveled to Avon Park to take on the Lady Red Devils on April 25, and came back with a dominating 20-1 victory.

The win secures a season sweep of Avon Park by the Lady Terriers. Before this game the girls beat the Lady Red Devils 25-0 at home in Moore Haven.

Junior Hayden Davis and freshman Tahnia Billie each had 2 RBIs for Moore Haven, while freshmen Hannah Johnson and Halley Balentine, and sophomore Serenity Micco all had 1 RBI.

The Lady Terrier base runners made life difficult for the Avon Park defense. Moore Haven had 28 stolen bases against the Lady Red Devils. Balentine led the team with six, followed by junior Hayden Davis with five, and sophomores Laini Rico and Preslynn Baker with three.

Baker got the start on the pitcher’s mound, striking out 11 batters in four innings and allowing only one hit. In the first victory over Avon Park, Baker was even more impressive, allowing zero hits in three innings, striking out nine batters.

Freshman Joellen Erskin hit a home run in the 25-0 blowout of Avon Park on April 18. The Lady Red Devils just couldn’t get out of their own way all game. Errors and wild pitches haunted Avon Park, and the Lady Terriers were more than capable of taking advantage of those mistakes.

Moore Haven is coming off an appearance in the district championship last season, where they fell to Berean Christian. This year they’re back in the hunt again. The Lady Terriers will host Seacrest Country Day on May 1 in the district quarterfinal.
