STUART – Martin County School District reminded parents, students and staff of COVID-19 precautions in their “Martin Moments” email Tuesday.
The email focused on parents monitoring their children’s health daily to prevent the spread of illness to other friends or family members. Keeping children home from school should they become ill was the first course of action.
The school district’s screening tools grant quick assessment to parents and students alike, “for a wide variety of symptoms,” also advising the recommended action that should be taken and a list of health care providers in the local area.
According to the COVID-19 dashboard provided by the Martin County School District, Warfield Elementary had 17 confirmed COVID-19 cases, Indiantown Middle had 10 confirmed cases and South Fork High School had 48 confirmed cases on Sept. 1. However, the total confirmed cases county-wide stood at 365. The dashboard is updated twice daily – midnight and noon.
The district reminded parents that the Florida Department of Health in Martin County requires all unvaccinated students remain home from school if the child or a family member in the home is awaiting a COVID-19 test result.
If a student is experiencing two or more COVID-related symptoms, families were informed they must follow the protocol in section two of the Florida Departments of Education/Florida Department of Health’s decision tree. This means they must stay home from school until they:
• Receive a negative COVID-19 test (PCR or Rapid) and all symptoms have resolved OR
• Ten (10) days have passed since the onset of their symptoms (or a positive test result), they have had no fever for 24 hours and their other symptoms are improving OR
• They receive written permission from their health care provider to return to school.
Many local pharmacies and physicians are offering the COVID-19 vaccines to interested individuals aged 12 and up. The Department of Health of Martin County and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention believe that the vaccine is the best, long-term method to fight this virus.
COVID-19 testing sites are available throughout the community as well. Martin County DOH – Kiosk at 3341 SE Willoughby Boulevard has PCR test slots available Thursday and Friday Sept. 3. Visit www.curative.com/sites/31397 to schedule an appointment or www.vaccines.gov and enter a ZIP code.
