Palm Beach County elections on March 9 will include races in Belle Glade.
For Belle Glade City Commission, there are two candidates for Seat C. Joaquin Almazan is vice president of Palm Beach County Democratic Party’s Hispanic Chapter. Stephen Messam is the business development manager at Messam Construction. Messam is also the senior associate pastor for First Church of God South Bay. Incument Larry Underwood did not seek re-election.
In the race for Seat D on the Belle Glade City Commission, incumbent Mary Ross Wilkerson is challenged by Robert C. Mitchell.
Wilkerson is a counselor with Drug Abuse Treatment Association (DATA) Inc.
Mitchell, a chef who owns Country Boy Catering, previously challenged Wilkerson unsuccessfully for this seat in 2018, and also ran unsuccessfully for Seat A in 2020.
In the race for Seat E, Andrew "Kenny" Berry is challenging incument Commissioner Johnny Burroughs.
Burroughs, a Career Service Specialist with Florida Career College, has been on the city commission since 2012. He worked as Director of Training and Staff Development for The GEO Group, Inc. from 2011 to 2017.
Berry, a former NFL player, worked for the State of Florida Juvenile Corrections before earning a degree in Theology from the South Baptist Theological Seminary. He is Senior Pastor of Grace Fellowship Worship Center in Belle Glade.
Belle Glade has 7,889 registered voters.
