Chamber of Commerce holds Heroes Appreciation Awards

OKEECHOBEE- The Chamber of Commerce of Okeechobee County hosted a Heroes Appreciation Awards Luncheon at Indian River State College Dixon Hendry Campus on Aug. 25.

The luncheon was sponsored by SouthState Bank and recognized the men and women in Okeechobee who serve as public safety, health care providers and military veterans.

Executive director of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs Retired Marine Corps Major Gen. James S. “Hammer” Hartsell was the guest speaker for the event.

General Hartsell served in the United States Marine Corps with honor for 37 years of active and reserve duty, ‎beginning as an enlisted Marine in 1981 and completing a distinguished and highly decorated ‎military career as a Major General.‎
