Community helps place wreaths on veterans' headstones

Posted

OKEECHOBEE --  Wreaths Across America took place on Saturday, Dec. 18 all across the United States. In Okeechobee, the procession began at the Cypress Hut Eagles at 11:30 a.m. and headed to the Evergreen Cemetary.  After a short service, many from the community joined in to help distribute the wreaths on the graves of the fallen veterans.  Each volunteer was encouraged to respectfully say the name of their veteran as they placed the wreath.

After they finished at Evergreen, they continued on to Fort Drum and Bassinger Cemetaries.

This was the sixth year Okeechobee participated in Wreaths Across America, although 2020 looked a little different due to COVID-19. The theme this year was "Live up to their Legacy."
