Drug deal arranged over social media makes its way through the courts

OKEECHOBEE — Michael Harvey was sentenced to two years probation after pleading no contest to the sale or delivery of Oxycodone. Adjudication was withheld. Harvey was arrested in September 2020 in an undercover narcotics sting.

Harvey was arrested along with Kaitlyn Wilson, who was charged with possession of Oxycodone with intent to sell and sale of Oxycodone. According to the arrest report, Wilson was openly advertising on social media that she had narcotics for sale. A member of the Okeechobee Narcotics Task Force contacted her through social media to set up a buy.

During their conversation, Harvey sent the detective a video message telling him he would not rob him if he would meet him in Dean’s Court, although he later agreed to meet elsewhere. Wilson arrived for the arranged meeting, and the detective purchased 23 acetaminophen/Oxycodone tablets in exchange for $325. She was arrested immediately after the transaction. A passenger in the vehicle with Wilson was not charged.

Harvey was arrested shortly after and during his interview admitted to messaging the detective but said he knew nothing about a drug deal.

Wilson’s case is still making its way through the court system.
