LABELLE -- The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold a public workshop on Wednesday, Jan. 31 in LaBelle and an online workshop on Thursday, Feb. 1, to review proposed improvements on State Road 29.

FDOT, District One, is conducting a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study Re-evaluation for proposed improvements to SR 29 from County Road 80A (Cowboy Way) to north of CR 731 (Whidden Road) in Hendry County. These improvements are intended to improve traffic operations, access, and mobility along SR 29. FDOT anticipates this project will also enhance safety along the project corridor; improve emergency evacuation; and improve access between Hendry and Glades Counties. The project will widen sidewalks along the corridor and look at improvements at the intersections of SR 29 and Cowboy Way, SR 80 at Main Street and Bridge Street, and Park Avenue at Main Street and Bridge Street.

The no-build alternative, where no improvements other than routine maintenance are made to SR 29, will remain viable throughout the remainder of this study.

Estimated cost for the project: $13 million for right-of-way and $148 million in construction costs.

The workshops will include proposed improvements to address traffic operation, access and mobility along SR 29.

The same material will be presented at both meetings.

The in-person option is Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the LaBelle Civic Center, 481 Hickpochee Ave., LaBelle. This will include an open house with a formal presentation. The project team will be available for discussion.

The online meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 1 from 6 to 7 p.m. To register, go online to https://tinyurl.com/SR29PublicWorkshop2 Project materials will be available to review online at https://www.swflroads.com/project/417878-8 by Jan. 24.
