The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is moving forward with proposed rules to help protect the state from 16 high-risk nonnative reptiles including Burmese pythons, Nile monitors, green iguanas and tegus.

Draft rule language was originally presented at the FWC’s Commission Meeting in July 2020. At that meeting, staff were directed to move forward with advertising the proposed language for public comment. Since that time, FWC staff have solicited public comment, held public workshops, and worked with stakeholders to improve the draft rules.

Proposed final rule language will be presented at the FWC’s Commission Meeting on Feb. 25. The Commission Meeting is open to the public and will be held virtually. The meeting will be broadcast via Adobe Connect and the Florida Channel. Public comments will be accepted via comment form or mail in advance of the meeting, and via call-in number during the meeting.
