MOORE HAVEN – The annual Chalo Nitka Festival in Glades County included a variety of events for the whole family including a fishing tournament, Kids Day games, Youth Livestock Show and Sale, a rodeo, carnival rides, beauty pageants, a parade and more.
The Chalo Nitka Big Bass Tournament was held at Alvin Ward Boat Ramp in Moore Haven on Saturday, February 24, 2024. There were a total of 91 anglers participating in this year’s tournament. First place went to Donnie Atteberry with a bass weighing 7.42 lbs. Second place went to Marshall Tommie with a bass weighing 7.09 lbs. Third place went to Barrett Ringstaff with a bass weighing 6.41 lbs. First place in the critter division went to Mike Mills with a tilapia weighing 5.53 lbs.
Chalo Nitka Pageant winners included: Baby Mister Jace Crawford, Baby Miss Willow Green, Tiny Mister Miguel Ballesteros Jr., Tiny Miss Everleigh Kline, Mini Mister Christopher Franco, Mini Miss Londyn Lee, Little Mister Parker Carlton, Little Miss Addison Kline, Chalo Nitka Princess Yuliana Villasenor, Chalo Nitka Junior Miss Veana Lewis and Chalo Nitka Queen Kyleigh Adams.
In the Glades County Youth Livestock Show Steer Show, on Feb. 28, Grand Champion Steer was shown by Rhett Fulford, Reserve Grand Champion Steer and Home Grown Grand Champion was shown by Kaelyn Murray, Home Grown Reserve Champion by Eli Pollard. Junior Showmanship Champion was Eli Pollard. In the Commercial Heifer Show, Grand Champion and Home Grown Grand Champion was shown by Aubrey Pollard. Reserve Grand Champion was shown by Kaelyn Murray. Senior Showmanship Champion was Kaelyn Murray.
In the Swine Show on Feb. 27, Grand Champion was shown by Nalaya Flemming and Reserved Campion was shown by Hazelyn Perez. Junior Showmanship Champion was Channing Cox. Intermediate Showmanship Champion was Jada Griner. Senior Showmanship Champion was Camryn Prowant. Overall Supreme Showman was Camryn Prowant.
The Pee Wee Show on Feb. 26 included 12 rabbits, one pig, one goat and 11 calves.
In the Dairy Show on Feb. 26, Junior Showmanship Champion was Augustus Collier, Senior Showmanship Champion was Madilyn Collier. Junior Calf Champion was shown by Kyleigh Adams. Senior Calf Champion was shown by Madilyn Collier. Overall Grand Champion was shown by Madilyn Collier. Overall Reserve was shown by Kyleigh Adams.
