OKEECHOBEE -- At 9:43 a.m. on Feb. 8, the Okeechobee High School school resource officer was alerted to a report that a student on campus might have a grenade in his possession. At the time the report was received, it was not known if the item in question was real or fake.
The school was placed on a yellow lockdown for precautionary measures at approximately 9:45 a.m. At 9:46, the individual was searched and the item in question was discovered to be a hollowed out grenade.
The lockdown procedures were lifted at approximately 9:55 a.m..
At no time was anyone in danger. The school will follow the Student Code of Conduct for disciplinary measures.
We want to thank those who reported the suspicious item to the sheriff's office and the quick and effective communication of the SRO to the OHS administrative staff.
