OKEECHOBEE – Okeechobee Elks Lodge #2871 plans to host a community Halloween event at the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021.
At the Sept. 23 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission, Cheryl Gumz, of the Elks Lodge #2871, requested the use of the outdoor circle area and covered arena at the Agri-Civic Center to host a public Halloween event on Oct. 30. The Elks also requested a fee waiver on rental of the facility. This event will be free of charge and open to the public.
Matt Dorriety, Agri-Civic Center Manager confirmed the date of Thursday, Oct. 30, was available. The Elks Lodge #2871 will handle clean-up after the event.
The Elks Lodge #2871 held this event in 2018 and 2019 at the Agri Civic Center with attendance of 1,800 to 2,000 each year. The event was canceled in 2020 due to Covid-19.
The county administrator recommended approval of the fee waiver as a benefit to the public for a safe and secure Halloween event for the children of Okeechobee.
Commissioners voted unanimously to waive the fees for the Elks to use the Agri-Civic Center facility for the free, public event.
