HCSO warns of scammer posing as deputy

LABELLE -- HCSO recently received several calls from citizens reporting they have received calls from someone identifying themselves as Detective Clifford Earl of the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office.
 
Citizens reported they were told they have an active local warrant for failing to appear for jury duty. The victim is being instructed to turn themself in and to provide $3,000 via Cash App or Zelle in order to clear the warrant.
 
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM.
 
No member of the Hendry County Sheriff’s will ever call you to ask for money to clear a warrant.
 
If you receive a call from someone identifying themself as a member with HCSO, please do not provide the caller with any personal information. This is a SCAM.
 
If you receive such a call, please hang up and call law enforcement immediately.
