Hit and run accident involves multiple vehicles

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After a hit and run accident, Johnny Thompson, 47, was charged with two counts leaving the scene of an accident with damage.

On Jan. 24 at approximately 7 p.m., Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Cauley responded to the 800 block of Southeast Eighth Avenue in reference to a hit and run traffic accident. When he arrived, he spoke to a man who told him he was driving his vehicle and was hit by a white truck. He said the truck did not stop and hit a second vehicle after hitting him.

The drivers of both vehicles followed the truck to Oakview Baptist Church, where Thompson got out of the truck for a few minutes and then drove to his house. When they all arrived at Thompson’s house, they watched him get out of his truck and go inside the home, only to come back out a few minutes later and start walking away. They both said Thompson was acting "crazy."

The report notes Cauley attempted to speak to Thompson, but he was unable to carry on a conversation and just rambled on about random things.

Thompson’s bond was set at $1,000.
