Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Indian River State College is bringing its Correctional Basic Recruit Training program to its Dixon Hendry Campus in Okeechobee. The class will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2229 N.W. 9th Avenue in Okeechobee from June 13 through Sept. 13.

The Correctional Officer Basic Recruit Training program consists of 444 hours of training and lasts approximately four months. Upon successfully completing the program, students are eligible to sit for the State of Florida Certification Examination and then seek employment with a local or state municipality.

“We are delighted to bring this in-demand program to Okeechobee,” said Russ Brown, President of IRSC’s Dixon Hendry Campus. “The program is delivered by instructors from the Indian River State College Criminal Justice Institute. The Institute is the regional leader in providing this type of training and is certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to conduct authorized Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission courses.”

The Corrections Academy is a selective-admissions program. Prospective students should review the IRSC Criminal Justice Selection Center Policy Manual before applying. For more information, contact Christina Juarez at 863-824-6005 or cjuarez@irsc.edu.
