Deputies investigate reports of man with a knife

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — On Tuesday, Oct. 31, a deputy from Okeechobee County Sheriffy’s Office responded to a report of a Hispanic male in a green shirt with a knife trying to attack people at Faith Farm thrift store on State Road 70 West.

According to an OCSO incident report, when the deputy arrived on scene he saw multiple people there, but no one matching the suspect’s description. The deputy observed a Hispanic woman looking over a Hispanic male lying on the ground. The male did not have stab wounds on his body but complained of neck and back pain. The female explained that the man had been in a physical altercation with multiple people.

After attending to the man lying on the ground, the deputy began to ask the surrounding people if they saw what had occurred. No one came forward except for a Hispanic male juvenille. The juvenille showed the deputy a video he had taken with his cell phone of the suspect attacking a Hispanic male wearing all black. The victim wearing all black was not at the scene and no one would come forward when asked if they knew his wherabouts.

The juvenille explained that the suspect had gotten into an older, gray Toyota Tacoma truck and headed towards US Highway 98 North.

The Hispanic male wearing all black was located and he explained that he had been walking from Dollar General when an unknown suspect wearing a green shirt and red shorts walked towards him and attempted to stab him without warning. The victim reports that he took a step back causing the suspect to miss. When the victim stepped back, it caused him to fall to the ground and he did not see which way the suspect ran.

While photographing the scene the deputy located a green shirt with blood on it on the east side of Faith Farm Thrift Store with a phone number and lawncare company logo on it. The green shirt, video, and pictures were submitted into evidence. The Toyota Tacoma was not located.

One victim signed a waiver of prosecution and at this time it is unknown if the other victim would like to pursue charges.

This case will remain inactive until further information is required or the other victim signs a waiver of prosecution.
