OHS JROTC earns Honor Unit with Distinction rating

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee High School JROTC program recently underwent an accreditation evaluation, meaning that someone from the outside comes in and looks at every aspect of the program, not only just the academics and what is being taught, but they also interview the student leaders within the group.

They took samples of students' work and examined their portfolios. The cadets were scored on platoon sequence and Color Guard sequence. The instructors were required to have a portfolio and received a 300 out of 300 points during the portfolio inspection. The inspectors dug deep into the program from the teachers all the way through the students and they were scored along the way.

The Brahman Battalion earned the "Honor Unit with Distinction," the highest rating that a unit can receive. The scoring has to be between  95-100% in order to receive an Honor Unit with Distinction on the unit report. The Okeechobee JROTC Brahman Battalion scored a 96.5% and with accreditation, it will last for the next few years.
