OKEECHOBEE -- Okeechobee County is seeking citizens who may be interested in volunteering to serve on the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee.
Deadline to apply is May 13, 2022, by 3 p.m. All applications are to be turned into the County Administrator's office at 304 N.W. Second St., Room 123, Okeechobee.
The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee seeks local business professionals and residents of Okeechobee County, who actively seek ways to improve, encourage and facilitate affordable housing throughout the county.
The committee is responsible for recommending revisions or amendments to the Local Housing Plan, a plan that is periodically updated and approved by the Board of County Commissioners. The committee works with the State Housing Initiative Program and the county SHIP housing coordinator.
The committee will consist of 8–11 members and should include members representing the real estate profession, local planning agency, banking/mortgage lending industry, a citizen lay person, a provider of essential services, a resident of the county, a not-for-profit housing provider, a for-profit housing provider, a residential home builder, a low-income advocate, and a laborer.
All completed applications will be placed on the Okeechobee County Commission agenda for board consideration in late May or early June.
